OS POSITIVOS

imoral e instrutivo

The author was dead; long live the text that stands on its own! The genius whose name was on the work might be louche, but who cared? He (and it was usually a he) had nothing to do with the free play of meaning.

Only after I graduated did deconstruction morph into new historicism and feminist postcolonialism, which sneaked the author back into the classroom by focusing on the particular circumstances in which the work was written. Morality returned too: Now you studied literature to decode the problematic social and sexual relations encrypted in the text.

Ficámos do artsy-fartsy. Mesmo artigo que hoje citamos acima, Polanski ("Polanski drugged and anally raped thirteen-year-old Samantha Gailey"), Woody Allen, Kevin Spacey, Michael Jackson entre outros nesse dinner party maldito a que talvez se junte uma outra estrela, sociologo, mas fazendo caso por Oscar Wilde, presença assídua no Cerebus, esteta: "aestheticist ideas about beauty emerged in vigorous opposition to the Victorian insistence that art be morally instructive". Ie, arte como tanto nos irrita:

[Art shouldn't] be seen as expressing the temper of its age, the spirit of its time, the moral and social conditions that surround it, and under whose influence it is produced. Art has no meaning but its beauty, no message but its joy.

Solidários muito por baixo. Caso-em-ponta, sem-sentido e puro joy: OS POSITIVOS. Mas uma arte que guardamos dentro de calças. Se a vão sacar para fora em público e importunar outros, que seja instrutivo.

Who benefits from keeping biography and history away from art? “The winners of history (men) (so far).”
