[Q] I see as one of your central artistic concerns here [is] capitalism and the idea of bosses.
[Mickey Z] It was on my mind a lot. I thought a lot about capitalism as being a massive trap that everybody is just stuck in, because everyone has to make money to survive so, you have to participate somehow [and] any participation just keeps the wheels turning.

Para iniciar hostilidades destaque da última newsletter do The Beat: "it's time to get paid".

This week's twitter convo was kicked off when Declan Shalvey tweeted: 'there’s certain newer publishers out there who have not been paying their creators. NOTICE: creators are openly talking about this amongst themselves for months. Unpaid creators eventually have nothing to lose, so for everyone’s sake, PAY THEM.' I had a pretty good idea who he was referring to, but after the DMs starting rolling I heard UP TO 7 PUBLISHERS that they could be talking about; a few on the list that surprised me. Some of the companies that are falling behind mean well, but...comics publishing isn't all that lucrative. We told you that when you arrived for the party. The publishers who are struggling to make ends meet mostly publish new up-and-coming creators. And that includes some of the most acclaimed new books of 2018, I'm sad to say. The odds were always against these books making mone.

Multiple comics sites published articles in the last couple of days regarding DC Comics, which has begun the process of firing people in an attempt to restructure the company into one that appears more profitable via the easiest method possible.

It's unfortunately extremely universal haha.

Fun is what I pursue when I make comics, absolutely. If I'm not having fun drawing comics, why am I drawing comics? I used to think I wanted to be a career cartoonist, or something, but everything connected to that made it not very fun, and stressful, and I'd make work just because I felt like I had to, I'd make work for all the wrong reasons, or when I didn't feel like making work, which made everything very not fun and it didn't make me happy. I think this ties into the whole capitalism thing we talked about before.

E antes que acusem a Mickey Z ("a massage therapist and a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu") de devaneios hippies a tripar on pen and paper, citamos JdF no mesmo tópico:
