OS POSITIVOS

mean-a-while

Day Tour could have come off as overly twee, but in Pita’s deft hands it’s an oddball charmer from start to finish.
in "Mini kuš! #’s 67-70" 1 out 2018

America culture as a whole was experiencing events as upending and disruptive as anything in revolutionary comic book format.
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018

Porque, ii) aquilo do $$$:

Comix most profoundly did something mainstream comic books carefully did not do: comix offered cartoonists the chance for self-expression. They drew for themselves not for the company dollar.
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018

Do dollar, iii) à tech.

My message seemed to be sufficiently anti-establishment, anarchic - and, most important, the right size. I took it in to the art director and he pulled out a ruler and measured it. ‘Hey,’ he said, ‘it’s the right proportions. We’ll use it!’ I don’t think they even read my first five or ten strips. They were just so thrilled that they were drawn to the correct proportions.
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018

Enabled by the advance of printing technology that gave small publishers - and individual cartoonists - the means to publish short-run comic books
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018

Critics value everything, without any criteria

Concepts historically determined: they're part of a mentality, of an ideology. Denouncing the mixing up of the criteria means denouncing a cultural manipulation
in "Monthly Stumblings # 5: Bruno Lecigne" 2 out 2018

The problem is not to determine which doctrine of creation is the "true one," or the more adequate to comics but to dispute the mixing up of the languages, namely the absurd support that a global positive cultural image  gives to production conditions that are just commercial.
in "Monthly Stumblings # 5: Bruno Lecigne" 2 out 2018

Academia either ignored or denigrated [comics] based (...) on three major points:

  • comics are morally corrupt;
  • comics are culturally harmful because they deturn from the real culture (particularly from literature);
  • comics are aesthetic junk.

Facing this rejection (...) comics fans [criaram uma] parallel legitimization through magazines, fanzines, conventions, collectors, specialized critics; everything in closed-circuit: a paraculture was born.
in "Monthly Stumblings # 5: Bruno Lecigne" 2 out 2018

Recalling the early days of comix, comix were for aficionados and dopers and whatnot from the beginning - we were just entertaining our friends, so to speak.
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018

OS POSITIVOS: a entreter os amigos, so to speak... e porque insistimos no digital:

Underground comix were suddenly snuffed out. The change that ended undergrounds was the Supreme Court decision in 1973 that declared that local standards could determine obscenity. The chief distribution means of underground comics, head shops, couldn’t risk it anymore. Without distribution, comix slowly died.
in "The 50th Anniversary of Underground Comix" out 3 2018
